A Study of Monologue Translation in Hearthstone from the Perspective of Skopos Theory
1. Abstract
Nowadays, China has become an enormous market of those video games which takes English as official language, basing on the American and European cultural background, further prompting the development of this new field. Therefore, the game translation and localization industry, with no doubt, is attached great significance to the delivery of culture and value between European or American countries with China. According to many researches both abroad and at home, game localization has been proved to play a very important medium in the cultural exchanges. The present study in this thesis will mainly discuss and analyze the typical monologue translation samples of the neutral minions in Hearthstone from the perspective of Skopos Theory. Firstly, one of the following objectives is to figure out how game translation and localization can be a cultural medium for target audience from perspective of different translating techniques. Secondly, positive samples are going to be selected and analyzed from the perspectives of different translation techniques including amplification, division, conversion, substitution and negation, all evaluated by Skopos Theory, which is order to suggest commercial success of Hearthstone. Furthermore, another one of the purposes of this essay is to explore the importance of game localization in video game market worldwide and to give some inspiration to game localization industry. In the end of the article, a general conclusion about the quality of monologue translation in Hearthstone will be concluded by the detailed data analysis.

2.1. Introduction
With the rapid development of video games in worldwide, a new industry that the translation in game localization --- especially the translation on game texts and dialogues --- comes into serve in the game market. The concept of “game translation” could be stated as “a process of translating the language and developing the software to adjust itself to its target market from the perspective of language and culture”.
