The Influence of English Newspapers on Junior High School Studentsrsquo; Reading

Abstract: Because of the limitations of English teaching facilities and the impact of traditional teaching model in our country, students lack authentic English learning environment. And in their daily life, they have hardly any chance to apply English knowledge they learned and have no exposure to authentic English. So for junior high school students, reading is the major input of language learning and the main channel to be exposed to the target language. While the textbooks at the moment used in the reading class have many shortcomings compared with English newspapers. Therefore, finding out the influence of English newspapers reading on students and giving suggestions to teachers and students are necessary tasks. This paper will finish these tasks based on several theories through a series of experiment in junior high school students and real class.

摘要：由于英语教学设施的局限性以及传统教学模式在我国的影响，学生缺乏真正的英语学习环境。而且在学生的日常生活中，他们几乎没有任何机会运用所学的英语知识，也没有机会接触真实地道的英语。因此，对于初中学生而言，阅读是语言学习的主要输入，也是接触目标语言的主要渠道。与英语报纸相比，目前在阅读课上使用的教科书有很多不足之处。 因此，研究英语报纸阅读对学生的影响并为师生提供教与学的实用建议是非常有必要的。 本文将通过一系列基于理论设计的、在初中课堂开展的实验，来证实英语报纸阅读的影响并提出针对性的建议。

1. Several concepts related to reading

The inheritance of human knowledge and civilization is basically achieved through reading. Reading is an essential cognitive activity in human society, and its process is relatively complicated. A long time ago, scholars at home and abroad have begun to pay attention to and study this cognitive activity, reading, and have made certain research results in reading activities, reading models, and reading strategies.
